NY state reports lowest daily COVID-19 death toll since Dec. 6: Cuomo
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state recorded its lowest daily COVID-19 death toll since Dec. 6 on Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
Fifty-eight additional New Yorkers died of complications related to the virus, bringing the state's death toll to 39,230, Cuomo said in a press release Wednesday morning.
Eight of the 58 residents who died lived in the Bronx; nine lived in Brooklyn; nine lived in Manhattan; four lived in Nassau County; one lived in Orange County; 12 lived in Queens; one lived on Staten Island; two lived in Suffolk County; and two lived in Westchester County, the release said.
Of the 205,616 COVID-19 test results that came back in the state on Tuesday, 6,489, or 3.16 percent, were positive, the governor said.
As of Tuesday, 4,798 New Yorkers were hospitalized with COVID-19, down by 101 from Monday, he said. Nine hundred and ninety-nine of those patients were in intensive care and 686 were on ventilators.
"We're working hard every day to get New York's infection rate down while increasing the vaccination rate, and the state is making significant progress in that ongoing footrace," Cuomo said in a statement. "But even as we gain more supply of the vaccine, grow our distribution network and get more shots in arms, New Yorkers need to stay vigilant, so that we don't lose an inch of that progress."
"We're expanding eligibility and continually extending our efforts to get the vaccine to underserved communities, and until every New Yorker is vaccinated, I encourage everyone to keep washing their hands, wearing masks and social distancing as we get through this fight together," he added.
