NY state to expand vaccine eligibility to 30+ NYers on Tuesday, 16+ on April 6: Cuomo

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state will expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to New York state residents ages 30 and older on Tuesday, March 30, followed by residents ages 16 and older on Tuesday, April 6, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.

All New Yorkers 30 years of age and older will be eligible to schedule appointments and get vaccinated starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, Cuomo said in a press release.

New Yorkers 16 years of age and older, meanwhile, will be eligible to schedule appointments and get vaccinated starting April 6, the governor said, without immediately providing an exact time.

The state's vaccine expansion dates fall "well ahead of the May 1 deadline set by the White House," Cuomo said in a statement.

"As we continue to expand eligibility, New York will double down on making the vaccine accessible for every community to ensure equity, particularly for communities of color who are too often left behind," he added.

New Yorkers interested in scheduling an appointment at a state-run mass vaccination site can visit the state's "Am I Eligible?" website.

They can also call their local health department, pharmacy, doctor or hospital to schedule an appointment elsewhere, Cuomo noted in his release.
