VIDEO: John Mulaney's 'SNL' monologue focuses on Cuomo's COVID briefings, calls them an 'hour-long drama series'
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Comedian John Mulaney's opening monologue on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend got lots of laughs -- at the expense of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
How did Mulaney keep himself occupied while quarantining?
"I watched a series that I absolutely loved, it was an hour-long drama called 'the daily press conferences of Governor Andrew Cuomo,'" Mulaney, 38, joked.
"It told the story of an Italian American father who, after being an empty nester finds himself quarantining with his two daughters," he said. "Hijinks ensue."
Cuomo said at a briefing on Sunday, "I didn't see the skit. So I can't comment on it."
Jokes aside, Mulaney said he "loved" Cuomo's briefings, but he said the governor seemed a "little too excited" about delivering them.
"He'd get out there and he'd start his rhythm, you know, he'd be like, 'We are New York, and we are New York tough. And we are New York tough because we are New York strong. And we are New York strong because we are New York kind," Mulaney said, imitating Cuomo's Queens-inspired speech.
Mulaney added, "I'm scared he'll take it on the road and try to play stadiums and come out and be like, 'Hey, who wants to hear about my daughter's boyfriend,' and everyone's like 'play COVID!'"
