EWING, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A police officer rescued a stranded motorist who was trapped in floodwater in New Jersey during last week’s historic deluge from tropical rainstorm Ida, newly released video shows.
The Ewing Police Department released bodycam video Wednesday showing Officer Justin Quinlan saving the woman after she was forced to abandon her vehicle in the fast-moving floodwater last Wednesday night.

“Officer Quinlan was able to find a way through the swift moving water to come to her aid,” police said. “He was able to position himself and the female on a guard rail where they had a stable location to await rescue personnel.”
The two-minute video shows the officer wading through the water while holding onto a guardrail before reaching the woman.

Police said the officer stayed with the woman for more than 20 minutes as rescuers were responding and staging.
Ewing fire stations worked together to rescue the woman and officer. Police said Ewing Fire Department captain Kyle Brower and firefighter Oscar Estrada entered the water and rescued the two.
The response and rescue last more than 40 minutes, according to police.
Last week’s record flooding from the remnants of Ida caused widespread flooding in the Garden State and left at least 27 people dead and several others missing. President Joe Biden approved major disaster declarations for multiple counties as the cleanup and recovery continued this week.
