NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rift with the rest of the England’s royal family could act as a “teachable moment” if the two sides are able to reach a place of “forgiveness and healing,” former first lady Michelle Obama said in a new interview.
Speaking with TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager, Obama said Markle’s claim that family members were concerned about how dark her son Archie’s skin might be was difficult to hear, but didn’t come as a shock.
“As I said before, race isn’t a new construct in this world for people of color, and so it wasn’t a complete surprise to hear her feelings, and to have them articulated,” Obama said.
“I think the thing that I hope for, and the thing I think about, is that this, first and foremost, is a family,” she added. “I pray for forgiveness and healing for them so that they can use this as a teachable moment for us all.”
