Boomer & Gio react to Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll keeping their jobs with Giants

John Mara has made it official that Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will be back in their respective roles with the Giants next season, ending speculation that one or both could be fired following a three-win season that soured the 100th anniversary of the franchise.

Boomer and Gio were live on the air to react to the breaking news, and Gio warned that if Daboll and Schoen are back, it better not turn into a mistake that Mara rectifies quickly into next season, and stunts the potential growth of a young quarterback that this regime will likely take with the No. 3 overall pick.

“One of the things you don’t want is what happened in Chicago this past year,” Gio said. “Where Matt Eberflus was on the hot seat, they draft Caleb Williams, they fire their offensive coordinator and then Matt Eberflus, and now Caleb Williams is going to have his third offensive coordinator in the span of a year…that is how you mess up a young quarterback.

“That is a formula how you mess up those guys…you hope it works out so that quarterback doesn’t get in that rookie blender that you can never get out of.”

Boomer still isn’t sure if either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward are worth taking that high in the draft, but knows this regime is anxious to get a rookie quarterback in the room. Regardless where they go from here now that they know their jobs are safe, Boomer says it could get ugly by midseason next year if things don’t improve following two miserable seasons under Schoen and Daboll’s watch.

“Good for those guys, but I can’t wait to see where we are Week 8 next year,” Boomer said. “Oh boy.”
