Boomer & Gio: Will Giants' 100th season go down as worst in team history?
As the Giants prepare for the final five games of the season, now without their star in Dexter Lawrence, Gio believes there is a good chance Big Blue doesn’t win a game the rest of the way.
If that happens, it would be a disaster in a year that the franchise is celebrating its 100th anniversary. If New York indeed finishes with just two wins, would its centennial campaign be the worst in team history?
“If they do not win another game - which is possible - and they go 2-15, it could be the worst single season in 100 years,” Gio said.
To make matters worse, the Giants’ last game would come against the Eagles in Philadelphia, where Saquon Barkley would have a chance to break the single season rushing record against his former team, which Gio says would be a fitting ending to a season that could be the organization’s worst of all time.
“If Saquon breaks the rushing record in that game,” Gio said. “And they stop the game and celebrate him as the new all-time rushing leader in the history of the NFL while the Giants stand there and watch that?”
Even without the Barkley variable, Boomer says the recipe is there to make this the worst season in the deep history of the Giants.
“They’re potentially not gonna win a home game,” Boomer said. “They’re not gonna win a game within their division for the first time. There are a lot of reasons why you could say this is one of, if not the worst season in their history, given the fact they are celebrating their 100th season.”
