Boomer goes off on 'soft' Rangers amid reports of shaking up core

According to reports, the Rangers have made it known that they are willing to trade established veterans in Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba as the team looks to shake up its core and finally get over the hump to a Stanley Cup.

Hours after news broke of the team’s interest in dealing away its longest-tenured player as well as its captain, the Blueshirts dropped their third straight, falling to the Blues and new head coach Jim Montgomery at home.

Safe to say the vibes at Madison Square Garden are not great at the moment, and Boomer Esiason is clearly not happy about it.

“The team is soft. This is like getting Giant-esque,” Boomer said. “The team is obviously not responding to the coach.

“There’s all these threatening conversations out there about trades and shaking up the core...who is the core? [Artemi] Panarin is not going anywhere. [Alexis] Lafreniere is not going anywhere. [Vincent] Trocheck is not going anywhere. Is Kreider gonna be traded? Is Mika [Zibanejad] gonna be traded? I don’t think they can.”

Boomer got so worked up about the state of his hockey team that he came awfully close to needing the dump button during his Rangers rant, as he sounded off on the idea of trading Kreider, the way the team has been playing of late, and potentially another season of wasting away the prime of a superstar goaltender in Igor Shesterkin.

“I’m not melancholy about this. I’m angry,” Boomer said. “I would be lighting a fire under everybody.

“I don’t want them trading Kreider. I’ll tell you that right now.”
