Garrett Wilson has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the third straight season to begin his NFL career, but the former tenth overall pick has expressed frustration with the season as a whole, and recently had to shoot down reports that he is at odds with Aaron Rodgers and would want to be traded if the quarterback returns next season.
Wilson’s reported feelings around the team has led to speculation over whether the young receiver will ask out of New York, and while Sal wouldn’t trade Wilson, he doesn’t believe the Ohio State product has put together the tape to justify superstar treatment.
“I like Garrett Wilson, but has he ever done anything that Malik Nabers on Sunday? Just taking over a game like that?” Sal said. “I’m not seeing that physical ability.
“He’s good, and I think he can be better, but I don’t watch Garrett Wilson and think ‘Good God, that is a stuff receiver’...Room to grow? Sure. Very good? Yeah. Could he be great? Yes. I had higher hopes, but I just haven’t seen it, and I don’t think it’s because of the quarterback play.”
If Wilson’s reported frustration is true, Sal wouldn’t respond by shipping him out or declining to offer a contract extension, but he also wouldn’t pay him like one of the top receivers in the league.
“I’m not gonna bend over backwards and give the keys to the franchise to a wide receiver who, in my mind, has been slightly disappointing,” Sal said. “I thought he was gonna be the stud.”
BT is higher on Wilson than Sal is, but he agrees that Wilson likely will never be among the cream of the crop of wide receivers.
“I don’t think, even on his best day, he’s gonna be Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase,” BT said. “He’s not one of those guys.”
