A former Devils Stanley Cup champion has finally earned his call to the Hall.
The Hockey Hall of Fame revealed its newest class on Tuesday afternoon, one of them being Alexander Mogilny, who has been waiting years to find out if he would be inducted. That wait is finally over.
The winger only spent two-plus seasons in New Jersey, but they were impactful. A trade acquisition during the 1999-00 campaign, Mogilny helped the Devils to their second Stanley Cup victory that season, scoring a goal in each series of that postseason. One year later, he helped New Jersey to another Stanley Cup appearance on the back of a stellar 43-goal campaign.
Mogilny also won an Olympic gold medal and a World Championship gold, making his Cup win with the Devils in 2000 the completion of the Triple Gold Club.
A long-time member of the Sabres, Mogilny boasted a miraculous 76-goal season during the 1992-93 campaign, which was in the midst of a run that saw him earn four All-Star appearances in five years. For his career, he tallied 473 goals and 559 assists, making him a member of the 1,000-point club.
Mogilny finished his career back with the Devils in 2006.
It had long been a debate among hockey fans why Mogilny wasn’t a Hall of Famer, but as of Tuesday, that debate can finally come to an end.
