Some more bad news in an already spiraling season for the Giants: Dexter Lawrence suffered a ‘long-term’ injury to his elbow in Thursday’s loss to the Cowboys, and tight end Theo Johnson also suffered a foot injury that ‘has the potential to end his season.’
Lawrence left the Thanksgiving game in the third quarter, and described the play postgame intimating that his elbow had been dislocated.
“I overextended, and Bobby [Okereke] came crashing down and it popped out of place,” Lawrence said. “I looked at him and said, ‘You just popped my elbow out of place.’ And then I thought, ‘I wonder if this is what shock feels like.’”
X-rays were negative, and Lawrence will have an MRI to confirm anything further, but head coach Daboll said in his Friday day-after presser that he is ‘not optimistic’ on D-Law, who has not had a sack in the last five games after an NFL-leading nine through his first seven.
“We’re still going to take a look at a few different things, but not very optimistic,” Daboll said.
The same, it seems, goes for Johnson, who would end his strong rookie year with 29 catches for 331 yards and a touchdown if the foot injury he suffered Thursday does complete it.
Johnson had five catches for 54 yards on Thanksgiving, the last coming with just over two minutes left as the Giants drove for the touchdown that made it 27-20 late, but that could be it for him.
“He injured his foot, and this is probably going to be a long-term one as well,” Daboll said. “He’ll get a few more tests, but I definitely think there is potential for (it to be season-ending).”
