Giants' Nick Gates carted off field with leg fracture

The Giants put together a dream start on Thursday night, forcing a three-and-out before scoring on their opening drive, but that optimism took a big hit when Nick Gates was carted off with what looked like a serious leg injury.

Early on in New York’s second drive of the night, Gates’ leg was rolled up on, and a cart was immediately brought on to the field. The injury occurred in the backfield during pass protection.

The entire Giants team came out to show their support for Gates before he was taken off the field.

New York’s offensive line is already shorthanded with Shane Lemieux out with a knee injury, which caused Gates to shift over to guard for just the second time in his career on Thursday. Gates started all 16 games last year, and was the Week 1 starting center, and is one of the team’s most productive lineman.

Gates was named one of the team captains for this season.
