Gio: Tommy DeVito once again has power to alter Giants ability to draft top quarterback

As Tommy DeVito prepares to start for the Giants for the first time in nearly a year, Gio says the New Jersey native once again has the power to drastically impact the future of the organization, and not for the better.

Last year, after Daniel Jones went down with a season-ending ACL injury, DeVito became a sensation by leading the Giants to three straight wins, which ignited the fanbase but also took New York out of the running for a top quarterback in the draft, as Jayden Daniels went to the division rival Commanders, who seem to have found their star quarterback of the future.

Currently, the Giants will be in the running for a top pick, but if DeVito rattles off a few unexpected wins, the organization could find itself in the same situation as last year.

“We’ll see how the evaluations go…but if they win a few games, they’re gonna be in the same spot as last year where the top quarterback they want is not within reach,” Gio said.

“How Tommy DeVito plays, just like last year, is going to affect the future of this organization.”

Many believed the Giants winning streak with DeVito in 2023 set the franchise back, as the team has been waiting to draft a quarterback for Brian Daboll to develop. If it happens again, Daboll may never get his chance.

“There were three teams ahead of the Giants last year, and they all took quarterbacks,” Gio said. “If Tommy DeVito haven’t won some of those games last year, then maybe they would have gotten one of those top three quarterbacks.”
