Evan explains why Julius Randle ending is best thing that could happen to Knicks and their fans
Knicks fans were devastated to hear the news that Julius Randle was ruled out for the rest of the season, as specialists determined that he would be risking his career if he returned to play without getting surgery on his separated shoulder.
But Evan opened Thursday's show by declaring that this is the best-case scenario for the Knicks and their fans.
"Sometimes you get bad news, but the bad news is necessary and is actually good news," Evan said. "The announcement today…it sucks for Julius, it sucks for the Knicks, but in the grand scheme of things, it's good news. It's very, very good news."
Why is it good news? Because Evan says Randle would have pushed through the injury and would have been unable to be his usual, physical self. It would have led to another underwhelming playoff performance, and Evan is convinced that the fans would quickly be all over Randle, who Evan says has more of a love/hate dynamic from the fanbase than any other player he can remember in New York.
"There was no scenario where this was gonna work out," Evan said. "If he pushed his way back…and played a game or two, let me just give you the spoiler on what would have happened. He would have played like crap, and you guys who have been very hard on him - rightfully so at times - would have turned on him. You wouldn't have cared if he was coming back from injury. See last year. He wasn't healthy last year, but you didn't think about that when he payed like crap in the Miami series.
"There was never a scenario where this was going to work out. So him being ruled out for the season is the best thing that could have ever happened to Knicks fans, to Julius Randle, and the Knicks as a whole."
