Keith: Gleyber Torres is done, will be remembered for 'failing' and 'not hustling'

Gleyber Torres had a nightmare game in Tuesday’s Subway Series opener, striking out in a feeble at-bat with the bases loaded, had a ball scoot under his glove to allow another run to score in the sixth, and didn’t run out a ground ball in the eighth in a 9-7 loss to the Mets.

Torres has heard his share of criticism for his play in recent years, and Keith doubled down on that after Tuesday’s loss.

“The Gleyber Torres era is over. It’s unfortunate,” Keith said. “This is what Gleyber Torres is gonna be remembered for. Failing, not hustling, errors, running into outs.

“He gave the Yankees great moments, but it’s over.”

Another Yankee infielder that has been struggling badly is DJ LeMahieu, who hasn’t been able to get anything going at the plate since returning from his foot injury. Keith says the veteran’s time is also likely up in New York, but there is still plenty of time for the team itself to turn things around.

“DJ LeMahieu, another one. Gave the Yankees great moments, but ultimately, didn’t win,” Keith said. “But the goal is still to win a World Series, and that is very much still on the table for a team with 52 wins and in first place by two games.”
