As Jayden Daniels and the Commanders get set to take on the rival Eagles for a chance to reach the Super Bowl, Keith McPherson says it is a reminder that the Giants could have had the likely Rookie of the Year had it not been for Tommy DeVito sparking Big Blue on a winning streak last season.
Now, looking back, that DeVito sensation could have set the team back years, as continued losing would have put Big Blue in the running for a top pick that could have landed Daniels.
“Who cares about the morale and the guys in the locker room right now? These guys are gonna be gone,” Keith said. “Think of all the Giants players that have already gone. Winning with Tommy Cutlets is gonna set the team back...winning those games, if you’re a Giants fan, it cost you. It absolutely cost you.
“You don’t know how it would have shaken out...maybe you would have been higher where you could have traded up. Who knows? But winning those games was a waste of everyone’s time. You can’t even remember some of the plays and moments from those games. What did it get you?”
Daniels has been thriving on the biggest stage, most recently picking apart the Lions in a 45-31 win, and it’s hard for Giants fans not to wonder how their fortunes would have changed had New York not rode the DeVito sensation to a winning streak down the stretch last season.
“He is playing the best out of all the quarterbacks left in the playoffs!” Keith said. “And he could have been had!”
