NBA free agency is open for business, and the Knicks have reportedly landed a new bench option to help a unit in need of scoring.
According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, New York will sign Jordan Clarkson to a veteran minimum deal after the 33-year-old agreed to a buyout with the Jazz. The move will reportedly become official once he clears waivers.
The former Sixth Man of the Year winner averaged 16.2 points per game last season, shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from downtown, the latter being his best percentage since the 2019-20 season. Clarkson has a tendency to be a streaky shooter, but New York could use a bench player capable of scoring in bunches.
Clarkson reportedly received little trade interest from other teams, leading to the buyout.
The Knicks still don’t have a head coach to lead Clarkson and the rest of the team, but they have reportedly conducted interviews with multiple candidates.
