As recently as this afternoon, it appeared that we may be in the final days of the Kyrie Irving-Kevin Durant era for the Brooklyn Nets.
But as tends to be the case with Irving, he zigged when the expectation was that he would zag.
Irving has decided to opt into the final year of his contract with the Nets, which will pay him $36.5 million.
“Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow," Irving told Shams Charania of The Athletic. "I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall. A11even."
Still only 30, Irving averaged 27.4 points per game in 2022-23, but was limited to just 29 games because of his decision not to comply with New York City's COVID-19 vaccine rules.
