The Red Sox have made another big offseason splash, signing Alex Bregman to a three-year deal with opt outs that will pay the former Astros third baseman $40 million in 2025.
With the acquisition of Bregman, Boston brings in an experienced All-Star and Gold Glove winner who had a down year in 2024, but will be able to maximize his offensive potential swinging towards the Green Monster at Fenway Park, much like he did the Crawford Boxes in Houston.
With the move, Chris McMonigle says it’s time for the Yankees to get busy and respond to what he believes is now New York’s greatest threat towards repeating as American League champions.
“This is a major move in the American League and the American League East,” C-Mac said. “You look at that lineup…and they brought in Garrett Crochet. The Red Sox are making the case to be the biggest threat in the American League to the Yankees. We know Gerrit Cole has his struggles against them, and even when they’re down, the Red Sox play them well.
“This is the kind of move that needs to get the Yankees focused on not entering the season with a third base platoon of Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza.”
What move would make C-Mac more comfortable with the hot corner, and remaining the clear favorite to win the pennant? By bringing in a former All-Star and Gold Glover of their own, who is still available via trade.
“Go get Nolan Arenado,” C-Mac said. “He desperately wants out and the Cardinals want to move him…the Yankees, I’m sorry, they need to improve themselves.
“Are the Yankees determined to be the best team in the American League? If they are, Nolan Arenado is a better third baseman than DJ LeMahieu, Oswaldo Cabrera, or Oswald Peraza.”
