Mets reportedly calling up Ronny Mauricio in wake of Mark Vientos injury

The Mets are reportedly calling up Ronny Mauricio in the wake of Mark Vientos’ hamstring injury.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the 24-year-old will join the team in Los Angeles on Tuesday before their matchup with the Dodgers, the second game of a four-game set. Mauricio, who has been thriving in Triple-A, could be in the lineup.

Vientos hurt his hamstring while running to first base during the tenth inning of Monday’s win over LA, and Carlos Mendoza told reporters after the game that it “didn’t look good,” but he would wait to speak with the training staff for a more accurate outlook.

Hamstring injuries could sideline players weeks to months depending on the severity of the injury, so Mauricio could get a longer runway to prove himself in the majors.

Mauricio was batting a ridiculous .515 with a 1.382 OPS in nine games at Triple-A this season. Overall this year, he is batting .323 with an .891 OPS in 19 minor league games, spanning from Single-A to Triple-A. He has risen quickly up the ranks as he works his way back from a torn ACL suffered in December of 2023 in winter ball action. He was reinstated last month and optioned to Triple-A.

Mauricio appeared in 26 big-league games back in 2023, batting .248 with a .643 OPS and two home runs in 108 plate appearances.
