Morash: Brian Cashman gets 'complete card of forgiveness' if he lands Kyle Tucker

The Yankees are reportedly in on Kyle Tucker, with Jon Heyman of the New York Post reporting that the Astros want Rookie of the Year Luis Gil in a return package for the All-Star outfielder.

Shaun Morash was admittedly “devastated” after the Yanks lost Juan Soto to the Mets, but if the Yankees can rebound and acquire a three-time All-Star with speed and great outfield defense in addition to the Max Fried signing, he would give Brian Cashman a full pardon, and not just for losing out on Soto.

“If Brian Cashman can get a deal...and you get Kyle Tucker and lock him up to a deal that is not gonna cost you $800 million, perception-wise, I give a complete card of forgiveness to Brian Cashman and all the criticism I’ve given him,” Morash said. “I really do believe this way.”

Morash has been critical of Cashman and the Yankees not going all in at the trade deadline after acquiring Soto last season, and of moves in past offseasons as well. In his eyes, that all gets washed away is he orchestrates a rebound from Soto that includes Tucker, Fried, and likely more.

“We get winning baseball seemingly every year from the Yankees. But we haven’t gotten World Series winning baseball for the first time since 2009,” Morash said. “The Yankees got to the $700 million range [for Juan Soto], and Brian Cashman did all he could.

“If you cook up a deal and don’t prospect hug with your arch nemesis...to get, with all due respect, the closest thing the Yankees can get to Juan Soto, I have to give forgiveness card to Cashman if he gets this deal done.”
