Morash declares season is back on after Giants victory

Shaun Morash had a paper bag over his head days ago, mourning a lost Giants season that he said would only be saved by tanking for a top draft pick to find their future quarterback.

But a lot can change in 72 hours, and after an encouraging win over the Browns on the road, Morash is declaring that the season is officially back on.

“I would like to be the first to welcome everyone in the tristate area to football season,” Morash said. “Because it began [Sunday] in Cleveland, Ohio.”

It wasn’t just the win that pulled Morash back in. It was the star power of Malik Nabers, the stability of the offensive line, the relentless pass rush finally on full display, and the return of the aggressive Brian Daboll.

“Brian DaBalls got his balls back,” Morash said. “When he lined up on 4th-and-1 and said ‘Screw this, we’re 0-2, the season feels like it’s slipping away’ and doesn’t even call a dropback pass, just says ‘I’m handing the ball off to our best player and he’s gonna make a play.’ It felt like that moment right there, the game changed and maybe, just maybe, the season changed.”

Morash says that performance on Sunday was sustainable, and given the rocky outlook of the rest of the NFC East, there is no reason why the Giants can’t keep improving and have themselves in the hunt later in the season.

“This is a top-10 defense with a potential to be a top-15 offense,” Morash said. “They played their two preseason games, won on the road versus a playoff team and a playoff defense, and Daniel Jones dog-walked that defense in the first half.”
