It appears a Broadway return is coming for J.T. Miller, as multiple reports have the New York Rangers acquiring the center from the Vancouver Canucks.
Per Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers are acquiring Miller and defensemen Jackson Dorrington and Erik Brannstrom for forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini, and a protected first-round pick; said pick will be the Rangers’ 2025 first-rounder unless it falls in the Top 13, in which case it would become a 2026 first-rounder.
Miller, 31, has nine goals and 26 assists in 40 games this season with Vancouver, following up an All-Star year where he had 103 points in 2023-24. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the first round of the 2011 Draft, debuted in 2012-13, and spent parts of six seasons on Broadway before being dealt to Tampa Bay (along with Ryan McDonagh) in February 2018.
Dorrington, 20, was a sixth-round pick in 2022 and has 10 points in 23 games at Northeastern this season. Brannstrom, 25, was the No. 15 overall pick in 2017, and he has eight points, a minus-4 rating, and 39 blocked shots in 28 games.
The deal sees the Rangers saying goodbye to Chytil, the No.
21 overall pick in 2017 who was hoped to be a big part of the future – playing on the noted “Kid Line” with Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko in 2022-23 – but concussions limited him to 10 games last season, and he has 11 goals and nine assists in 41 contests this season.
Mancini, a fifth-round pick in 2022, made his NHL debut this season, and has five points in 15 games.
