Report: Yankees sign INF Paul DeJong to minor-league deal

The Yankees have reportedly added some more infield depth, signing Paul DeJong to a minor league deal, according to Jon Heyman.

Per further reports, DeJong will get an invite to spring training, with a $1 million salary if he makes the team.

DeJong, 32, spent last season in Washington on a one-year, $1 million deal, slashing .228/.269/.363 with six homers and 23 RBI in 57 games as a utility bench option, that playing time around a facial injury that cost him more than two months in the first half.

He played second, third, and short last season, with most of his time at third, but that was in deference to the Nats having C.J. Abrams at short and an unsettled hot corner; DeJong is a shortstop by trade, and played 90 games there for the White Sox and Royals in 2024.

That utility, plus his right-handed bat, could give DeJong a potential role early in the season, with Anthony Volpe set to miss the beginning of the season rehabbing from shoulder surgery.

Jose Caballero and/or Oswaldo Cabrera could be other options to fill in at shortstop, but both of those players could also be best utilized in super-utility roles, while recently re-signed Amed Rosario came up as a shortstop but played just two innings at short last season and only 14 games there in 2025.
