Yankees make big statement with 'first punch' to start crucial stretch

The Yankees had their ace on the mound to begin Friday’s crucial three-game series against the Red Sox, and while Gerrit Cole put together an outing worthy of his ace title, it was the offense that the team hopes set the tone for the rest of the series.

The Bombers pounced on Nathan Eovaldi, who had given the team fits in the past, tagging the hard-throwing righty for seven runs in 2.2 innings of work to take a 7-0 lead and cruise to an easy win.
