The Mary Tyler Moore show, airing in the '70's, was based in Minneapolis. The Mary Tyler Moore house used for exterior shots is located at 2104 Kenwood Pkwy. for the first five seasons of the show. Mary lived on the top floor and Rhoda, Mary's best friend, lived in the attic apartment. The location was later switched to the Riverside Plaza at 1600 6th St. S. in the 6th season of the show.
The RSM Plaza, located at 801 Nicollet Mall, was used for exterior shots of the place Mary worked, the fictional WJM-TV station. To celebrate the show, a Mary Tyler Moore statue was built in 2002 at the corner of Nicollet Mall that was commissioned by TV land.
Mary having a big career in the show as a TV associate producer as made her a feminist icon of the time. Minnesotans should celebrate and be proud the show's success.
