Thunder and PT want to celebrate Minnesota by sharing fun facts about the state with listeners on 102.9 The Wolf ... powered by Mr. Rooter Plumbing.
The Skyways in Minneapolis have saved many commuters downtown throughout the harsh winter months... and are today's Wolf Country Original!
First constructed in 1962, the Skyways have been crucial to maintaining a functional downtown throughout the winter in Minnesota. Connecting office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, and other key structures around the city. The skyways stretch from Target Center, the Minneapolis Convention Center, and all the way to U.S. Bank Stadium.
The skyways enhance accessibility around the greater downtown area. When the IDS Tower was built in 1972, the building became the meeting point for the skyway to connect in all four directions. Before, the system was not fully connected and difficult to navigate.
Skyways serve as more than just functional walkways; they also function as social spaces. Residents and workers use skyways as places to meet, socialize, and connect. This communal aspect contributes to a sense of community in the heart of the city.
The skyways represent the practical and resilient nature of Minnesotans in adapting to challenging weather conditions.
