Shoppers pulling into an Alabama Buc-ee's looking to fill up on gas, grab some BBQ, or pick up a new catamaran got a nice surprise when Country star Keith Urban rolled up for a quick pop-up concert.

Though he gave fans only a few hours’ notice, the Buc-ee’s gas station/mega-convenience store parking lot was packed for Keith Urban when he showed up in Limestone County for a free concert on Friday night with hundreds of fans swarming the area, surprising even the town’s administration.

“I thought this crowd was here for me to cut my new single but obviously it’s not,” Athens, AL mayor Ronnie Marks told local news outlet WAAF.

“I came down to this Buc-ee’s about a month ago. And when I left, I went, ‘It’d be kind of fun to do a show there,’” Urban told the crowd during the surprise concert. His “caveman brain,” he says, made him think up the idea, though he admitted he expected “maybe 100, 200 people.” As you can see below, quite a few more than that estimate decided to make the trip.

During Keith’s visit, he also stepped behind the service counter wearing a Buc-ee’s shirt and apron to dish out some brisket and BBQ to hungry customers.

But let’s be honest though… with the ridiculous selection of items that can be found at most of Buc-ee’s over 50 locations in the southern U.S., can we really call the instant availability of Keith Urban a “surprise”? Awesome, yes. But nothing should surprise you about Buc-ee’s.
