Lyle Lovett has won 4 GRAMMY Awards including Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Album, but he also stands the test of time thanks to some frisky behavior in the song, “I Feel Lucky” from Mary Chapin Carpenter. “Dwight Yoakam's in the corner trying to catch my eye,” she sings on the 1992 hit. “Lyle Lovett's right beside me with his hand upon my thigh.”

"Oh, you know, Chapin is an actual friend of mine. I met Chapin before she got her record deal,” Lyle shares with Heather Froglear. “I was just honored, flattered that she mentioned my name."

With a catalog of vivid songs of his own, we also asked Lovett about his songwriting style and how it comes together.

"Usually [it starts with] just a feeling, and then hope something comes from that,” he smiles. “Some of my songs are a combination of things that have really happened to me and things that I've made up. I don't think any of my songs are purely one or the other.”

Check out more from Lyle Lovett above, and on 90s Country with Heather this Sunday at 8AM.
