Both crooners spoke with Audacy's own Big Tigger and Kenny Burns, respectively, ahead of their Thursday night battle to discuss its significance to R&B and more. Mr. Don't Be Cruel himself had a quick chat with Big Tigger and his crew to admit that "it's going to be a great celebration."
However, you know the crew had to ask him about the infamous "King of R&B" debate, sparked by Jacquees. Brown expressed, "it's a great compliment." He did opt to share his reign stating, "there's a lot of kings out there, but don't test me." Everybody erupted in a fit of laughter. Brown remained hush about special guests, stating that he and Keith are more than enough. Yet, with VERZUZ, you never know who may slide through.

Keith, on the other hand, casually mentioned that this surprise VERZUZ has actually been in the works for a minute. However, "timing is everything," he mentioned to Burns. When discussing his storied career, especially in the slow jams department, he expressed how he always tried to top himself and that added to his longevity. "I wanted to be in the game as long as I've been in the game [...] I thought what's the next thing that I could do where I feel good about myself and where I could feel good about my work ethic," he stated.

Burns also casually slid in the "King of R&B" controversy and Keith is infamously known for getting into a slight quarrel with Jacquees over the title. In response, Keith admitted that while Brown may be the "King of R&B," he's the "King of New Jack Swing." *mic drop*
In partnership with ESSENCE Fest, the Bobby Brown/Keith Sweat VERZUZ goes down tonight (Thurs. July 1) at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Triller, FITE TV, and Instagram.
