A Night of ‘Blessings and Miracles’ - Santana concert review + photos
Santana performed at Treasure Island Resort & Casino Event Center on Friday, April 8, 2022
Seven decades ago Carlos Santana appeared on the historic Woodstock stage and captured the souls and spirits of those who were fortunate enough to attend. Fast-forward nearly 53 years and 8 Grammys later and the same could be said about those who attended his sold out show at the Treasure Island Casino Event Center.
Santana started out their 2 ½ hour show with "Soul Sacrifice" which was first showcased at Woodstock. This lead the way for other late 60’s and early 70’s hits such as "Evil Ways", Black Magic Woman” and "Oye Como Va" that helped establish Santana and that signature guitar sound.
Surprisingly, the night only featured two new songs (“Joy”, “Move”) off of his 2021 album, "Blessings and Miracles," which the tour is named for. The rest of the night feature multiple songs off the 1999 mega album, “Supernatural” which goes to reason. The album netted them 6 Grammy Awards and introduced Carlos to a new generation and gained him a whole new audience.
The start of the night’s encore featured the Rob Thomas collaboration hit “Smooth” with Ray Greene on vocals. Greene wisely didn’t attempt to sound like Thomas and successfully made the song his with Carlos’ signature guitar being the star. The rest of the night was a homage to a small window of time (‘69-’70) with covers from the Doors ("Roadhouse Blues"), the Chamber Brothers ("Love, Peace and Happiness") and Sly & the Family Stone ("I Want to Take You Higher,"). It was a beautiful way to wrap up a beautiful night by bringing us back to the time when the 22 year old Carlos Santana began.
