The Reel Buzz: 'Harry Potter' live-action TV series in the works at HBO Max: Reports

It might be time to dust off your wands - a new "Harry Potter" TV series is reportedly in the works at HBO Max.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, sources have confirmed that executives at HBO Max have had multiple conversations with potential writers for the series. They've been exploring the ideas that could bring a "Harry Potter" TV series to life.

No writers or talent are currently attached to the project, as it is still in the early stages of development. According to sources, only broad ideas for the series have been brainstormed.

HBO Max and Warner Bros. have reaffirmed in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, "There are no 'Harry Potter' series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform."

Despite the statement, multiple sources have confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter as well as Variety that the project is, in fact, in the very early stages of development.

That said, an expansion on the "Harry Potter" universe would come as no surprise, as the beloved franchise has been a valuable piece of Warner Bros. They, along with J.K. Rowling, control the rights to the property.

The seven books in the "Harry Potter" series have sold over 500 million copies worldwide and were later adapted into 8 films, grossing $8 billion worldwide. There have been two spinoff films in the "Fantastic Beasts" series.

During a time when WarnerMedia is prioritizing its streaming service, a "Harry Potter" TV series would be added to a slate including DC Comics films and multiple spinoffs and originals in the works.

"Harry Potter" films began to stream on HBO Max briefly when the service launched last May. However, the films quickly left the service after three months and will now be available on NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock.

HBO Max is also home to hits like "Friends," "Game of Thrones," and "Sex and the City."
