We can all relate to having a significant other turn out to be completely disinterested in our favorite artists, and HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale is right there with us.

Whether you've found yourself defending your status as a #Swiftie, or really pushing that new death metal band on your partner -- sometimes no matter how hard you try, your appeals to other people's good taste will go unheeded.
Speaking recently with Guitar Player magazine about her all-time top albums, HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale mentioned Prog-rock titans TOOL's 2001 album Lateralus among her favorites -- which also included records from Black Sabbath, Jeff Buckley, Alice Cooper, Van Halen, Hanson, and more.
Looking back on the album, Lzzy remembers her younger brother AreJay "was getting really good on the drums” at that point and had learned the album track "Schism" off of the radio -- no easy feat, mind you. "So I thought that I should get him the whole album for his birthday. We just devoured it," she adds. "I ended up getting really into it myself. Listening to their music was just like watching a horror film."
However, she also remembered getting a chance to see TOOL perform in Philadelphia the year Lateralus was released, and how she ended up next to a sleeping beauty during their set. “I had a sh**ty waitress job, and I got us tickets to see Tool at Hersheypark. I was so stoked. Then Arejay did something to piss off our parents, so they wouldn’t allow him to go," Lzzy explains. "I thought, Okay, this could be an opportunity to ask somebody out on a date, which I did. I asked this guy Nate, and he said yes. I was like, Sweet! We didn’t have great seats, but it didn’t matter — the show was amazing. I was singing every word. Halfway through, I looked at my date and saw that he had fallen asleep — total deal-breaker for me. So in a weird way, Tool’s 'Lateralus' was a life-changer. My brother still teases me about it: ‘I wouldn’t have fallen asleep.’”
Halestorm is currently working on their sixth studio LP, with plans for release later in 2025.
