You know the monkeys in Dania Beach?!

Well our FAU Owls have just published an article on that colony's origins and it's totally a survivor story.
Apparently, the monkeys escaped from the Dania Chimpanzee Farm in 1948. At the farm the monkeys were sold for medical research or put to work in studies in sound barrier and space with the Air Force.... I guess word got in the monkey ranks and one night in the 1940's they plotted their escape and 50 monkeys got out. Sure, some were caught; but a dozen or more escaped into the Florida wilderness and got it on.
According to this paper there's currently 41 monkeys and the population is stable (as you know if you've had to deal with them begging you for food on Federal Highway). If you want more monkey business, click HERE.
