Bring on the COVID safety because this years Pride Events look to be ready to make up for the lack of last years fun. So far these are the main events IMO:
Pride Fort Lauderdale
754-222-2234. PrideFortLauderdale.org.
The greater Fort Lauderdale-based Pride group is planning a Floatarama June 12-13 as a kickoff to Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival in Wilton Manor.
The flotilla of decorated boats on the New River will take place Saturday, June 12, starting at the Historic Stranahan House Museum (335 SE Sixth Ave., Fort Lauderdale) and ending with a raft-up party in Sunrise Bay (near the Coral Ridge Yacht Club). If you don't have a boat, you can enjoy the event with the Water Taxi Flotilla Experience. To register a boat, go to PrideFL.ee4.us/parades.
Then there will be a Sailor's T-Dance party on Sunday, June 13, at The Sanctuary Church FTL (1400 N Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale) with DJ Matt Consola of SwishCraft.
The entry fee for boats in the flotilla or the Water Taxi Flotilla Experience is $25. General admission to the Sailor's T-Dance is $10 while VIP admission is $85. All Weekend VIP Access Benefactor level tickets are $250.
There will also be a festival staged on Fort Lauderdale beach Nov. 20-21. The theme for the 44th year of the Pride Fort Lauderdale event will be "Glitter and Gratitude."
Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival
954-390-2100. StonewallPride.lgbt.
On Saturday, June 19 there will be a street festival with vendors and live music starting at 3 p.m. on a blocked-off Wilton Drive. Then there will be a parade starting at 7 p.m., just as the sun is setting so participants can use glow sticks, battery-powered candles and other kinds of lighting to fit in with the theme this year: Out of the Darkness, Into the Light. Admission is free, but organizers suggest a $5 donation which you can pre-pay online at TicketTailor.com.
Palm Beach Pride Market
561-533-9699. CompassGLCC.com.
Compass Community Center — which is the Lake Worth-based LGBTQ+ organization for all of Palm Beach County — plans on staging an open-air market from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on June 5. Compass traditionally has Pride celebrations in March, but this year decided to err toward caution and produce an event that would allow for plenty of social distancing.
The Palm Beach Pride Market will have vendors for produce, prepared foods, plants and flowers, handicrafts and fine art.
In addition to a DJ, there will be onstage appearances by female impersonators Melissa St. John, RaeJean Cox, Velvet Lenore and Rianna Petrone.
Mask-wearing is mandatory and there will be hand sanitizer stations. Admission is free. The market will be at Bryant Park, South Lakeside Drive and Fourth Avenue South in Lake Worth.
If you know of an event share it with me @AshleyO2Go and Happy Pride Month.
