It seems the Arizona State football team is officially off the rails after star quarterback Jayden Daniels signaled his intent to enter the transfer portal, Thursday. Daniels played in 12 games as a freshman, all four games of the 2020 coronavirus-impacted season and 13 games in 2021. His early emergence signaled a possible new QB talent to rein in the Pac-12 for years to come, but the hectic nature of Herm Edwards’ program proved too much for Daniels to bear. Now, the talented QB is on the market and could make an immediate impact wherever he lands.

May we suggest a northwest team on the rise? Oregon State perhaps?

The Beavers enter year four of Jonathan Smith’s tenure in quarterback limbo. Sam Vidlak transferred, Tristan Gebbia is coming off major injury and last season’s starter, Chance Nolan, proved too inconsistent to be effective. There is a wide open quarterback competition in Corvallis and Daniels would be the front-runner from day one. Sure, there are gaps on the offensive line but the hope is Smith could form an offense around the dynamic QB from Tempe.

Oregon State is also missing one half of their impressive running attack from last season, BJ Baylor. It’s also important to consider what Daniels wants from the last season of his eligibility. Does he want exposure on a national level? Corvallis isn’t the place. Does he want a near guarantee of starter minutes from day one? Check mark for the Beavers.

Either way, it will be interesting to see where Jayden Daniels lands in the transfer portal. Schools are always looking for an upgrade at quarterback, and the potential to provide that spark to one lucky team!
