Oregon State University president F. Alexander King has reportedly been placed on probation for his role in a sexual harassment scandal involving football coach Les Miles during their time together at Louisiana State.
The school's board of trustees voted 12-2 on Wednesday to put King on leave through June 1, according to ESPN.com.
The board arrived at its conclusion after reviewing the findings of an investigation into sexual misconduct within LSU athletics programs, according to a public letter from Oregon State board chair Rani Borkar, the report said.
Alexander knew about the allegations against Miles when he was hired as LSU president in 2013 and declined to take action, the investigation found.
The board said it heard "extensive public comments" and held a "public discussion" with Alexander over his handling of Title IX issues at LSU on Wednesday. The body charged him with reviewing the findings of the LSU investigation, and recommending new policies to improve Oregon State's Title IX procedures.
Former LSU athletic director Joe Alleva recommended Miles be fired, the damning investigation found, but King on Wednesday said the school declined to do so at the behest of its lawyers, the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported.
King apologized in a video released on Wednesday night, and vowed to look into the school's support programs for survivors, according to ESPN.
"I understand that the power of my position requires more from me to do everything I can to ensure the university is free from sexual violence and violence in all forms," King said. "I know that there was more I could have done at LSU given the power of my office and the expectation of community members. As university president, I should have sought every opportunity to hold others accountable. I stand with and support survivors of all forms of sexual violence and affirm the work of our advocates. As your president, I assure you I will work to rebuild trust."
Miles, 67, mutually agreed to part ways with the University of Kansas in the days after reports of his alleged misconduct first surfaced. Athletic director Jeff Long was dismissed shortly after.
