Newest Oregon Duck commit and four-star running back Byron Cardwell joined Recruiting with Andrew Nemec, Monday night. He’s a four-star recruit ranked No.1 in the West Region. He says the appeal to Oregon came at a young age, watching running backs of the past.
“Growing up, I was a Duck fan,” he said. “I use to watch a lot of LaMichael James, DeAnthony Thomas, Kenjon Barner. Those were the few back that I watched growing up.” It was these moments that made Oregon a dream school for Byron.
His commitment was a long time coming. Emotions ran high during his announcement when all the hard work culminated in success. “I was always waiting for Oregon to offer me and I had people telling me to be patient, and they finally gave me an offer. It felt really good to finally get the offer.”
Coach Don Johnson Jr, director of player personnel, was a big impetus for Byron choosing the school. It was a relationship built on trust. “That’s something that I’m big on. When I put my trust into somebody, I’m going to respect their word. I felt that from Coach Johnson and Coach Cristobal.”
Cardwell isn’t sure when he’ll arrive in Eugene for Fall camp, but the future certainly does seem bright for this Duck running back.
