Triston McKenzie came oh so close to etching his name into the history books on Sunday.

The Cleveland Indians right-hander fell four outs shy of completing a perfect game, allowing a two-out single in the eighth inning of a 14-0 game against the Detroit Tigers.


McKenzie was dominant all game, striking out 11 batters over eight innings and was economical, too, exiting the eighth inning at 106 pitches.

The 23-year-old has struggled in his first full season in the majors this year, entering Sunday with a 5.66 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.

But McKenzie has now strung together three straight quality starts.
