All it took for Michael Thomas to miss Drew Brees was seeing his smiling famous in an interview — a great interview, I might add — with former Saints teammates Cam Jordan and Mark Ingram.

Thomas apparently tuned in to the latest episode of "Truss Levelz" from The Players' Tribune, and it got him a little bit emotional after seeing and hearing his longtime quarterback recall some great Saints memories and exchange some lively banter with the duo of Jordan and Ingram. He then shared a screenshot of the episode on his Instagram story and added a caption: "I'm not crying [you're] crying. 😢😢😢take a year off and come back please."

But hey, if a quarterback helped you to three Pro Bowls, two first-team All-Pro selections and the 2019 AP Offensive Player of the Year Award, you'd probably miss him too after he decided to hang 'em up. Does he actually, legitimately want Brees to come back after a year off? Maybe, maybe not — we'll have to see how the duo of Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston perform this season, and it's not like Brees was firing on all cylinders last year. But we do know just how impactful Brees was on Thomas's career. A lengthy thank you note, like the one below, doesn't come without good reason.
So, will Brees ever come back? Unlikely. And that doesn't seem to be all that problematic for the Saints fan base, based on a recent-ish social media poll.
Maybe, however, he could come back as a coach? Or as Michael Thomas's personal practice quarterback? Or in some other role? Of course, all of that will have to happen after his stint with NBC Sports, which he announced he'd be joining post-playing days.
