This is one sweet, space-age deal that you can't pass up.
To celebrate Thursday's release of the epic first-ever image of a supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, Krispy Kreme is treating all guests to one free Original Glazed Doughnut on Friday, May 13.
The offer is available at stores nationwide.
The company said it was giving away doughnuts to celebrate the astronomers who worked to create the image of the black hole, which looks cosmically and deliciously like an Original Glazed doughnut.
"We like celebrating such phenomenal discoveries and the brilliant scientists who make them, so feel 'free' to make an Original Glazed doughnut the center of your universe for free on Friday," the company said in a statement.
The image of the black hole was produced by a global research team called the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration. The team used observations from a worldwide network of radio telescopes to form a single "Earth-sized" virtual telescope, combining several different images to reveal the giant lurking at the center of our galaxy for the first time.
Because the black hole is about 27,000 light-years away from Earth, astronomers say it appears to us to have about the same size in the sky as a donut on the Moon.
