ANAHEIM, Calif. (KNX) – One of Disneyland's most iconic rides is closing for good on Tuesday,

Splash Mountain is taking its final bow before it shuts its doors on May 31 so that imagineers can transform the ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The log flume ride, which made its debut at Disneyland in 1989, received backlash for featuring characters from the controversial 1946 Disney movie, “Song of the South.” In 2020, a Change.org petition called on Disney to change the ride’s theme to the 2009 movie “Princess and the Frog”.

The ride closed at Walt Disney World in Florida in January.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is expected to open in 2024.
