Dallas Cowboys And Defensive End DeMarcus Lawrence Resume Contract Negotiations

FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - There is a reason for optimism at the Star today as the Dallas Cowboys and representatives for defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence have resumed contract negotiations.

Both the Cowboys and David Canter (Lawrence's agent) haven't held talks in some time, so this can be seen as big step in the right direction for both sides.

The Cowboys franchise-tagged Lawrence for the second straight season on March 4 after failing to come to terms with the pass rusher.

Lawrence will earn $20.5 million under this year's tag. He played under a $17.1 million tag in 2018.

According to Fish, Lawrence has no plans to sign the tag as he continues to seek a long-term deal. The Cowboys have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term agreement with him.

There are reports that he is seeking $22.5 million per year.

Fish has previously expressed a concern that Lawrence could perceive the tag as a 'weapon' and elect to retaliate with his 'weapons' by sitting out or delaying surgery on his bothersome shoulder.

Next question: will Tank Lawrence perceive that #Cowboys r using the tag as a weapon' ... and retaliate with his 'weapons' - sit out, delayed surgery, etc.

Lawrence is coming off a 10.5 sack season. He had 14.5 in 2018.
