DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - I'd like to start out by cautioning that the chances of acquiring Kevin Durant are unknown, but are also unlikely.
However, I'll add that I believe the chances may have slightly improved since he ruptured his achilles in the Warriors game five win over the Raptors this week. Why? Because of the man in charge of the Mavericks' training staff, Casey Smith.
Thanks to Smith, the Mavericks have a reputation around the league as having one of the best training staffs in the NBA. Smith, who also happens to be the head trainer for the US Men's National Team, has worked wonders with players coming back from injuries, notably players coming back from achilles injuries.
Smith has experience helping players rehab the injury successfully in Wesley Matthews and J.J. Barea.
Matthews was several months into his recovery from a torn achilles he suffered in March of 2015 when signed with the Mavericks in the summer. Under the supervision of Smith, Matthews returned to the floor in just eight months. Barea is having similar success as he told ESPN's Tim MacMahon that he believed he could be back on the court playing for Puerto Rico in the World Cup, which starts on August 31. Under that timeline, Barea, who was injured on Jan. 13, would have been sidelined for just seven-and-a-half months.
Might Kevin Durant be interested in that type of care?
