DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The "Hot Boyz" nickname saga took another turn on Tuesday after San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander filed trademark applications for "Hot Boyzz" and "Hot Boyzz University," per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
The only difference between the Cowboys' defensive line's nickname and the nickname in Alexander's trademark application is the extra "z."
The leader of the Cowboys' "Hot Boyz," DeMarcus Lawrence, responded to the report with a gif that showed a fake application being "rejected," and said his legal team was monitoring the situation.

January 21, 2020 Appreciate everyone keeping me updated on the imposters. But, please believe my legal team has been monetering the situation and has already taken the steps to protect our ™️. Only one @HotBoyzTM don’t matter how many “Z’s” they put on it. #LawyerUp

At training camp in August, 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher spoke with Lawrence on the issue.
At the time, Lawrence and his teammates were mystified as to how the San Francisco 49ers were now nicknaming themselves the same.
''I don't know what's going on,'' Tank told Fish, joking that he'd trademarked the monicker. "But absolutely, the 'Hot Boyz' is here. We're the 'Hot Boyz.' Some people don't tune in.''
Lawrence told Fish there is a non-football thing that the Niners may be clinging to. "You gotta understand, there's this thing going around called 'Hot Boyz Summer' and "Hot Girlz Summer'' ... They're probably in their summer mode.''
Well, it appears it's not just a summer thing as the 49ers used the nickname for the entire season and will continue to use it through at least the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.
This story isn't over.
