Peterson said Friday that he wants to break Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record and win a Super Bowl title before he hangs up his cleats.
Peterson has a lot of work to do if he wants to catch the Cowboys legend. At 14,216 yards for his career, he's currently 4,139 yards behind Smith's record of 18,355 yards.
“That’s one of the goals I set to myself when I entered the NFL was to pass the GOAT,” said Peterson. “I look forward to playing a couple more years, 3-4 more years, who knows, depending on how my body is feeling.”
It's very unlikely that Peterson will pass Smith, as he rushed for just 898 yards on 211 carries in 2019. He'd have to average 828 yards a season over the next five years in order to pass him.
