OXNARD (105.3 The Fan) - Will McClay, the Cowboys executive VP for player personnel, joined the GBAG Nation at training camp in Oxnard to discuss the latest with the team.

McClay was asked about the Cowboys decision to bring in veteran running back Alfred Morris into the fold. Here's what he had to say:

On the Alfred Morris acquisition: We're always trying to improve the team. There are situations that we're dealing with right now that gives us an opportunity to see our young guys, but it gives us an opportunity to have a veteran guy who these young guys can learn from right now. And just give us some depth. We're always trying to keep our depth and find that best player available."
Will Morris make the team?

"We're going to construct our contracts and look at things it takes to get guys in that gives us flexibility. Competition is why we're doing this. We know what he can do, but there's no guarantee in that."

How much of it is a contingency plan in case Elliott doesn't show up?

"It's all a part of it. We have to move on, and we have great people that can help us do that. We want the bell cow (Elliott) ... we want him to be here and we hope that happens. There's a contingency plan but we're also looking at it as we're expecting him to be in here and we got depth and competition."

Did you feel like you needed to bring in a three-down back with Elliott not here?

"Most teams have six running backs in camp at this time. We needed a sixth running back at this time."
