Jared Sandler: Which Was The Bigger Mistake? Drafting Zeke Over Ramsey or Extending Zeke?

My mind wanders frequently, so here are some random sports things on my mind…

*If there was a way within the CBA (which there isn't) for the Nets to offer the Mavs Kyrie Irving for literally nothing, I'd still say no. He's got a tremendous skill set but the guy seems like an oddball distraction who is tough to play with. It was telling to me that the Celtics got better when he was hurt and worse when he came back and that the same virtually happened with the Nets this year. He had a good performance when the Cavs beat the Warriors but Lebron was the guy and he was able to draft off of the attention Lebron got. Just not a fan…

*As much as I try to avoid thinking about Game 6 in 2011, I can't avoid it. One thing that bothers me is that I always loved Nellie Cruz and as I was going through my playoff memories of those years, I can't help but think about how dominant of a hitter he was each year. If it weren't for that play, Nellie would have legend status in franchise lore because of his massive homers.

*Which was the bigger mistake for the Cowboys: Drafting Zeke instead of Jalen Ramsey OR giving Zeke the contract extension? I know you can get out of the extension for way less than full price but it just didn't seem necessary, especially for a guy with a partier's rep. Then again, I am still in the camp that would have preferred Ramsey over Zeke a few years back. With that said, it worked out immediately and maybe Dak doesn't develop without Zeke…

*I worry the Stars have missed their window and done so at very little fault of this front office. Jim Nill's big mistake was the Jamie Benn extension, though not many faulted him for it when it went down. And while that's a tough contract to have these days, I don't know that Seguin's poor year was predictable. He's got to turn things around. Nill did wiggle out of a horrible goalie situation to bring Bishop to town and the Stars, for the first time in a while, have an exciting youth mix with Miro, Klinger, Roope, and Gurianov. So, maybe there's hope after all. As you know, the NHL playoffs are always wide open in terms of possibilities.

*I wish NBA and NHL teams would go back to wearing white at home.

*I hope people remember how absurd it is that Lebron is still thisgood at his age and minutes played. Unreal. The guy is insane. I'll save you from Jordan-Lebron debates right now, but one advantage for Lebron is the longevity with which he greatness extended.

*What if the Mavs had upset the Lakers in Game 7 of the 1988 Western Conference Finals? How crazy is it that the Mavs, who were SOOOOO bad throughout almost the entire next decade, got that close to beating such a good team.

*Will college baseball ever get more love from a fanfare standpoint?

*Some players get it right away and others need guidance and direction. While I'm not sold on Jameis, I do think he has the highest ceiling of any of the QBs who were/are available. I'd love to see him go to Pittsburgh, spend a year behind Ben, get with Tomlin, and sling it for the black and yellow.

*What if the Dodgers traded away Alex Verdugo and company and Mookie Betts didn't even end up playing a game for them? Likely won't happen but if the season is cancelled, Mookie becomes a free agent…
