Chirinos was injured after outfielder Scott Heineman slide into his right ankle on a play at the plate.
The club announced that images taken on Chirinos' ankle came back negative, but there is still some concern about his availablity for opening day.
"Anytime a catcher rolls his ankle it’s concerning to say the least,” Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. “He’s an impactful guy on our team on both sides of the ball, so we don’t want to lose him. We’ll know tomorrow. If he hobbles in or if he feels better, maybe he’ll be in good shape or we might lose him for a while. I don’t know.”
If Chirinos were to miss time the club would turn to a combination of Jeff Mathis and Jose Trevino behind the plate.
Willie Calhoun was also lifted from the game after experiencing tightness in his left hip flexor. The club says the outfielder was pulled as a precaution.
