FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - That last time we heard of Randy Gregory's potential reinstatement came in May when it was reported that he was "working through the process" of getting back into the NFL. That news came after Gregory filed a petition to get back into the league in March.
Two months have now passed and Gregory's case still hasn't been resolved, and it appears the Cowboys hopes for him to be reinstated are dwindling.
According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the team has "all but given up hope" that Gregory will be reinstated from his indefinite suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher echoed Hill's report Monday afternoon, crediting the GBag Nation's Bryan Broaddus with predicting the Cowboys were facing "a challenging path" to get the defensive end back on the football field.
.@1053thefan @gbagnation has been making this point about #RandyGregory #Cowboys return for months. A challenging path. https://t.co/Wh7b1zZODa
— fishsports (@fishsports) July 13, 2020It's unknown why the Cowboys have had a change of heart on the matter, as they had faith that Gregory could potentially make his way back.
In Fish's many stories on and in his many conversations with Gregory, the gifted former second-round pick who struggles with issues that include marijuana use, he's stressed that this really needs to be about Gregory the person rather than Gregory the football player.
We believed Gregory was ready to take another shot at the NFL but it appears his situation has hit another snag.
The 27-year-old hasn't appeared in a game with the Cowboys since he was suspended indefinitely in week 17 of 2018.
